Want to race?

If the answer is an incontrovertible ‘yes' then you could do well with this — the SP/300R

Only 25 SP/300Rs will be manufactured each year.

The Caterham-Lola SP/300R was unveiled at the 2011 Autosport Show in the UK, and boy did it make a good first impression.

The prototype — the maiden collaboration between Caterham and British engineering firm Lola Cars — is designed for the well heeled gent who enjoys a good day out at the track. It's intended for a new one-make championship to start in 2012 — but this thing may become road legal. We have our fingers crossed.

As the name suggests it has 300bhp, but since it only weighs 600kg, that actually translates to 500bhp-per-tonne. It'll shoot to 100kph in just 2.5 seconds, thanks to the Caterham-tuned, Ford 2.0-litre Duratec four-pot supercharged engine, and tops out at 273kph.

The power goes to the rear wheels, while a limited slip differential ensures that you'll corner with aplomb.
In true race car fashion the SP/300R is designed with downforce in mind and packs a flat underbody and a massive rear spoiler to that end.
