Dubai: Gone are the days when souvenirs came in the form of flattened and stamped pennies. You can now commemorate your visit to Burj Khalifa's observation deck with an imprinted nugget of gold.

The two ‘gold to go' vending machines installed at the attraction dispenses 24 carat gold bars embossed with the Burj Khalifa emblem in four denominations; 2.5gm (Dh535), 5gm (Dh970), 10gm (Dh1,790), and 1 ounce (Dh5,620).

Visitors can claim their chunk at prices set to the current market price of gold on the day.

"The Burj Khalifa is not only the world's tallest building but also a symbol for the progressiveness of this fascinating country. A visit of such an excellent establishment quite simply deserves a very special souvenir.
"What could be more exclusive than a gift of pure gold? And unlike the most souvenirs, your Burj Khalifa gold bar will never lose its value and give pleasure for the next few hundred years," said Thomas Geissler, CEO of Ex Oriente Lux AG and inventor of the world's first gold vending machine.

Other flashy locations where people can line their pockets with golden souvenirs include the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, Westin Palace in Madrid and the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Since its opening just over a year ago, the At The Top observation deck has attracted over a million visitors. Tourists enamoured by Dubai's glitz and glam can now take away a little piece for themselves.
